This is a synonym of Cymbidiinae Benth.

General Description

Terrestrial herbs with a creeping rhizomes, up to 30 cm tall. Roots emerging from beneath pseudobulbs. Pseudobulb cylindrical–ovoid, unifoliate, arranged in a linear series on rhizome. Leaf erect, ligulate–oblanceolate, acute, petiolate, non-articulate, thin, papery, plicate. Inflorescence erect, from apex of pseudobulb, longer than leaf; peduncle bearing a few distant sheathing sterile bracts; bracts lanceolate, one-nerved. Flowers subnutant, non-resupinate, borne almost at a right angle to ovary. Sepals and petals yellowish to reddish, free, subsimilar, oblanceolate, apiculate. Labellum cornetshaped, entire, broadly obovate, obscurely trilobed above, lateral margins inrolled, apical margin crenulate, lacking a spur, ninenerved, papillose all over; callus raised, linear with a dilated apex and a fleshy, farinaceous base. Column lacking auricles, puberulant on ventral surface; anther conical, papillose, pollinia four in two unequal appressed pairs, ovoid, attached to a saddle-shaped tegula; staminodes present; rostellum trilobed, the midlobe triangular, lateral lobes broadly rounded. Ovary ribbed. (PC).


Imerinaea madagascarica occurs on shady rocks and in deep moss at the base of trees in moist mossy and lichen-rich forest on quartzite soils at elevations of 1000–1500 m. (PC).


A monospecific genus, Imerinaea is endemic to central Madagascar. (PC).


There are no known uses for Imerinaea. (AP).
