General Description

plant 3–6 in. high; stem slender, flexuous; leaves cauline, 2, sessile, suberect, lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, subacute, the lower 3/4–1 in. long, the upper smaller and more acute; scapes 3–6 in. high, 1–2- (rarely 3-) flowered; bracts ovate-spathaceous, acute, 4–5 lin. long; pedicels 2–3 lin. long; flowers rather large, pale yellow; dorsal sepal galeate, ovate-lanceolate, acute or acuminate, deeply concave or subsaccate at the base, 2–2 1/2 lin. long; lateral sepals spreading, obliquely ovate, acute, conduplicately folded at the base in front, 3 1/2 lin. long; petals united to the dorsal sepal at the base into a spreading limb, broadly orbicular or reniform-orbicular, with sinuate or subcrenulate outer margin, bilobed at the adjacent inner angles, very concave, 4 1/2 lin. long, broader than long; lip 3-lobed, saddle-shaped, 3 1/2 lin. long, with rounded reflexed side lobes and a narrowly triangular subobtuse front lobe; appendage elliptic-spathulate, obtuse, sharply reflexed into the sac of the dorsal sepal, subconduplicate at the base, 1 1/2 lin. long; column short; arms of the rostellum curved, oblong, obtuse, about 1 lin. long.
