Plant flowering 4 dm high. Leaves 15 cm long; sheaths suborbicular, 4 cm wide; blades narrowly triangular, 11 mm wide, pale green beneath and covered with fine closely appressed scales, laxly serrate with slender spines 2 mm long. Scape very slender, more or less compressed, soon glabrous; scape-bracts shorter than the internodes, ovate, acuminate, the upper entire or minutely fimbriate. Inflorescence simple, lax, to 14 cm long, lepidote. Floral bracts reflexed, broadly ovate, acuminate, minutely fimbriate, equaling or exceeding the sepals; pedicels very short but distinct; flowers erect to spreading, 11 mm long, orange. Sepals broadly ovate-elliptic, obtuse, ca 8 mm long, minutely fimbriate, subglabrous; petals erect, much exceeding the stamens, the blades very broadly obovate, emarginate; filaments connate for 2 mm above the common tube with the petals, the anthers triangular-elliptic, subacute, slightly recurved; style very short.
