General Description

Plant flowering 1 m high. Leaves 3-8 dm long, densely punctulate-lepidote beneath; sheaths narrowly elliptic, brown toward the base; blades linear, acuminate, 2-4 cm broad. Scape stout, erect, its bracts densely imbricate, lanceolate, acuminate, ferruginous-lepidote. Inflorescence simple, densely strobilate, fertile throughout, 6-18 cm long. Floral bracts broadly elliptic, acute, covering the sepals, membranaceous, densely lepidote; flowers subsessile. Sepals narrowly elliptic, acute, 22 mm long, connate for 6 mm, thin, lepidote becoming glabrous; petals narrowly elliptic, obtuse. Capsule slenderly cylindric, 35 mm long.


Saxicolous and epiphytic in savanna, 250-750 m alt.
