General Description

Plant rhizomatous with root tubers, perennial, twining 3–6 m long, stem robust, glabrous, 0.3–0.7 cm in diameter; Leaves lanceolate, 6–14 × 2.0–4.5 cm, glabrous; Inflorescence pendent, laxiflorous, with 3–20(–ca. 30) flowers, hypopodium of primary flowers 2–18 cm long, epipodium 2–8 cm long; Bracts of primary flowers frondose, 10–14 × 4.0–4.5 cm, bracts of secondary flowers bracteose, 1.0–2.5 × 0.2–0.7 cm; Flowers actinomorphic, pendulous; Perigone ca. 2.5–3.5 cm long, all tepals free to base, of equal length, outer tepals oblong, at outer side pink with green tip, at inner side pale yellow, inner tepals subdivided in blade and claw, claw pale yellow or whitish with a pink stroke on outer side, blade green with dark spots; Filament s straight, whitish, several millimetres shorter than the tepals; Ovary inferior, glabrous; Frui t unknown. SEM: Epidermis of the adaxial side loosely studded with irregularly ordered wax platelets. The abaxial side is densely studded with much less and irregularly ordered platelets.

Diagnostic Description

This species can easily be distinguished from the similar B. kränzlinii and B. diffracta by the differing shaped inner tepals with a conspicuous green plate.
