General Description

Hierba hasta de 40 cm de altura, de ciclo anual, poco ramificada. Rizoma 0.6-0.8mm de diametro, muy delgado, blanquecino. Hojas hasta de 30cm; vaina 10-15 x 0.3-0.4 mm, membranacea, translucida; limbo 0.1-0.2(0.3) mm de anchura, capilar, agudo, muy debilmente serrulado en el apice, con solo 1 nervio central. Inflorescencia largamente pedunculada; pedunculo 160-450 x 0.15-0.3 mm, muy espiralado, blanquecino, rara vez rojizo. Anteras (0.9)1-1.9 x 0.7-1.3mm reniformes; conectivo c. 0.4 x 0.2 mm, triangular, coriaceo. Gineceo con (4)5-8 carpelos; ovario con una giba apical; estigma discoide, crestado-tuberculado, mas estrecho que el ovario, situado en el margen de la giba del ovario. Drupa 1.7-2.5(3) x 0.9-1.5 mm, piriforme, generalemente asimetrica,, con pico, rara vez sin pico, rugoso-tuberculada; carpoforo 11-50 x 0.1-0.2(0.3) mm. Semillas c. 1.3 x 0.6 mm, piriformes, finamente reticuladas, blanquecinas. 2n = 20; n = 10.

Habitat

Lagunas endorreicas, marismas y rios con aguas hipersalinas; 0-990m.

Distribution

W de la region mediterranea - Peninsula Iberica, Cerdena, Sicilia, SE de Italia y NW de Africa.
